The American Southwest Part 2: The Grand Canyon
A lot of people told me that the Grand Canyon was "cool". A sight worth seeing, but "just a big hole". I admit that the views got more extreme as we made our way north up the Grand Staircase. However, as a native of the Northeast, that first glimpse over the edge was indescribable.
The massiveness of what lay before me was unreal. It was like gazing millions of years into the past. I could imagine a pterodactyl swooping overhead, a herd of Sauropods bathing in the river below.
It took a few minutes of silently staring before I could rejoin the crew and talk about what we were seeing. I think this photo captures our emotions pretty well:
